What Is Le Fisherman & Le Catcher by Hacksaw Gaming
Le Fisherman and Le Catcher are fishing-themed slots from Hacksaw Gaming starring Smokey the raccoon on a lakeside treasure hunt. They play on a 6-column, 5-row grid where clusters of 5 or more connected symbols pay out.
Cluster wins set off Super Cascades, which remove every matching symbol from the grid and turn those positions into Golden Squares. When a Rainbow symbol lands, all Golden Squares reveal special items: Coins worth up to 500x stake, Clover multipliers reaching x20, or Bucket collectors that gather accumulated values.
The game has three bonus tiers with a Big Catch Bar that upgrades Rainbow transformations as it fills. The 15,000x max win is achievable through stacked Golden Squares and chained collector sequences.
RTP, Max Win and Volatility
Base RTP is 96.33%. Feature buy options vary between 96.14% and 96.33% depending on which you pick. As with most Hacksaw cluster slots, expect high volatility.
The 15,000x ceiling requires wide Golden Square coverage with Gold Clover multipliers feeding into Global Bucket collectors. It can technically happen in the base game via Epic Rainbow, but realistic chances go up significantly in bonus modes where squares accumulate and Big Catch Bar upgrades kick in.
Theme and Graphics
The game is set at a lakeside and features Smokey, Hacksaw's signature character dressed in orange floaties and yellow wellies. Coarse fishing is actually one of the UK's most popular sports, with roughly three million active anglers.
Golden Squares light up under winning positions, giving the grid a sense of building momentum. Rainbow symbols have their own activation animation that stands out clearly. The audio and Smokey's character keep the tone playful throughout. The Hacksaw team built the Golden Square mechanic to feel like digging for buried treasure.

Wild substitutes for all paytable symbols. Base game wins from symbol clusters are fairly modest. The real payouts come from the Golden Square mechanic.
Super Cascades
When a cluster win lands, every symbol of that winning type gets removed from the whole grid, not just the winning cluster. This approach is more aggressive than standard tumble mechanics and clears more symbols per win.
Each cleared position becomes a Golden Square. Fresh symbols drop in to fill the gaps, and the cascade keeps going until no new clusters appear.
Because whole symbol types are cleared rather than just winning clusters, Golden Square coverage builds up much faster.
The Golden Squares System
Every position cleared by a Super Cascade becomes a Golden Square, marked on the grid. The squares stay dormant until a Rainbow symbol lands and activates them. Each activated square reveals one of the following: Bronze, Silver, Gold or Diamond Coins; Green or Gold Clovers; or Bucket/Global Bucket symbols.
Revealed symbols process in a set order: Clovers multiply first, then Buckets collect. The whole feature system in Le Fisherman and Le Catcher is built on this accumulation mechanic.
Rainbow Symbols
Two Rainbow variants trigger Golden Square activation:
| Rainbow | Function |
|---|---|
![]() |
Activates all Golden Squares currently on the grid |
![]() |
Reveals special symbols on every grid position regardless of Golden Square status. Full-grid activation in one landing. |
Both symbols process reveals and activations the same way once they land. Rainbow cannot appear on the same spin as FS or Epic Rainbow. How much coverage the grid has built up when Rainbow lands determines the feature's value.
Coin Types and Values
Golden Squares can reveal coins from four tiers:
| Tier | Values |
|---|---|
![]() |
0.2x, 0.5x, 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x |
![]() |
5x, 10x, 15x, 20x |
![]() |
25x, 50x, 100x |
![]() |
150x, 250x, 500x |
All coin values are stake multipliers. Coins stay on the grid until Clovers apply their multipliers and Buckets collect everything. From On Thin Ice upward, the minimum coin value is 1x.
Clover Multipliers
Green Clover applies its multiplier to Coins and Buckets on the surrounding positions only. Possible values: x2, x3, x4, x5, x10, x20.
Gold Clover multiplies every Coin and Bucket across the whole grid. Clovers always activate before Buckets collect, so Buckets pick up the already-multiplied values.
Several Clovers can land at once and each one applies in turn. A Gold Clover landing on a grid with high coverage is the main high-value outcome and the core collect-and-multiply approach Hacksaw are known for.
Bucket Collectors
The Bucket symbol collects from all Coins and other activated Buckets within the 3x3 area around it. Global Bucket does the same but pulls from every Coin and Bucket anywhere on the grid.
Buckets activate after Clovers have finished multiplying. The collected total is stored in the Bucket itself. If multiple Buckets are present, they chain together: one collects first, then the next one collects that total too. This chaining is where the biggest payouts come from.
Bonus Rounds
Landing 3, 4 or 5 FS symbols triggers one of three different bonus tiers. All start with 10 free spins and share the Big Catch Bar progression. Each tier builds on the previous one while keeping the core Golden Square mechanics.
On Thin Ice (3 FS)
Ten free spins where Golden Squares stay on the grid until activated, rather than resetting each spin. The Big Catch Bar fills as more FS symbols land.
Every 5th FS reaches a new level and awards +5 spins plus a Rainbow upgrade:
- Level 1: Rainbow transforms into Green Clover
- Level 2: Rainbow transforms into Global Bucket
- Level 3: Rainbow transforms into Gold Clover
- Level 4: Rainbow guaranteed every spin; transforms into Gold Clover
Minimum Coin value is 1x. The bar progression gives the bonus a real sense of building toward something better.
Slippery When Wet (4 FS)
This tier includes everything from On Thin Ice, with one important addition: Golden Squares persist even after being activated. A square that has already been triggered can be triggered again on later Rainbow landings.
Coverage compounds as the feature goes on. Early squares stay active while fresh ones keep forming from cascades. The same Big Catch Bar and 1x minimum Coin values apply here too.
Smokey Under Water (Secret Bonus)
This is the secret bonus for 5 FS symbols. The feature starts at Big Catch Bar Level 4, meaning a Rainbow landing and transforming to Gold Clover is guaranteed on every single spin from the start.
FS symbols cannot appear during this bonus, so there are no retriggers. But the guaranteed Gold Clover every spin more than makes up for that. This is the mode where hitting 15,000x becomes a realistic target.

Frequently Asked Questions
Golden Squares appear on positions where winning symbols were cleared during Super Cascades. They stay dormant until a Rainbow symbol lands and activates all squares currently on the grid. Each square then reveals a special symbol: a Coin, Clover, or Bucket. Epic Rainbow activates every grid position regardless of whether Golden Squares are present. Once revealed, symbols process in order: Clovers multiply first, then Buckets collect.
Bucket collects values from all Coins and Buckets within the 3x3 area directly surrounding it, covering a localised zone. Global Bucket gathers values from every Coin and Bucket on the entire grid, wherever they are. Both activate after Clovers have applied their multipliers. Multiple Buckets can chain together: one collects first, then the next one can collect that total, creating compounding payouts.
The Big Catch Bar fills each time an FS symbol lands during On Thin Ice or Slippery When Wet. Every 5th FS symbol advances the bar to a new level, adds 5 free spins, and upgrades how Rainbow symbols transform. Level 1 turns Rainbow into Green Clover. Level 2 turns it into Global Bucket. Level 3 turns it into Gold Clover. Level 4 guarantees a Rainbow every spin, transforming to Gold Clover. In Smokey Under Water, the bar begins at Level 4 from the very first spin.
Yes, and that is the key difference from On Thin Ice. In Slippery When Wet, Golden Squares stay on the grid even after being activated. A square that was triggered on one Rainbow can be triggered again on the next. Coverage compounds throughout the bonus: early squares remain active while new ones keep forming from cascade wins, gradually building toward full-grid coverage.
Epic Rainbow reveals special symbols on every grid position at once, regardless of whether Golden Squares are present. Standard Rainbow only activates existing Golden Squares. Epic Rainbow gives guaranteed full-grid activation in one landing. The way symbols are revealed and processed is the same for both: Coins show values, Clovers multiply, Buckets collect. The difference is coverage: Epic Rainbow always hits everything.
